How to Track and Count Binary File Downloads

Track Downloads to PDFs, Zip Files, and More!

This will record access to a file and will show up in your daily WhoStats report.
Use this method to track PDFs, MP3s, ZIPs, or any sort of binary file.

Example file to track:
http://customersite.com/document.pdf

Define your link as:
<a href="javascript:whostats_Launcher('http://customersite.com/document.pdf')">Important Document</a>

Note: the entire URL must be surrounded by single quotes.

This method can also be used to track site exits to external links. This can be useful if you link to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, or a payment processor hosted elsewhere. See if the visitor has gone there and then view his or her activity after return.
